Tricks to a Stay-Put Makeup

Less touch-up means longer party hours. That’s what you’ll get if you follow these fool-proof makeup tips.

1. Read the Label.
Your foundation, eye shadow, concealer or blush are less likely to come off if you know whether you have oily, dry, combination, or sensitive skin. Once you’ve determined that, use products tailor-made to your type. For instance, there’s such a thing as oil-absorbing makeup to control shine for oily skin types.

2. Exfoliate.
Dull, flaky skin makes it difficult for makeup to stay on – let alone stick. The solution: Use a soft brush or a cleanser with light beads or a cleanser with light beads to slough off dead skin. This gives way to softer, smoother skin – which makeup just loves adhering to.

3. Prep Your Skin.
Always start with a clean face. Before applying any makeup, start off by cleansing your skin. Follow this with a moisturizer or foundation primer. Give a few minutes for the solution to “set” on the skin before applying foundation, or else your makeup will slide right off.

4. Set With Powder.
Loose powder keeps your makeup in place. Always end applications with a layer of this classic tool. Use a sponge to pick up the product (tap the excess off to avoid blotchy pathes on your skin), then press the powder into your skin. Apply more in oilier areas like your forehead, nose and chin.

5. Cream Vs. Powder?
Cream formulations work well with dry skin, while powder lasts longer on oily complexions. When mixing the two, cream always goes first, then set with powder.
