Corregidor Budget for Travel and Accomodations
Craving for a different kind of weekend adventure? Corrigedor is your best bet. Get marooned in this island known all over the world for its rish background and legacy. Let your group of four take history lessons the fun and cheap way.
Tipid Transportation
Adventure starts by signing up for a tour around the island. I recommend you take the overnight trip package offered by Sun Cruises Inc. [tel. no. (02)831-8140; www.corregidorphilippines.com]. For only P2,499.00 per person, you get to enjoy the roundtrip ferry ride, a guided tour, buffet lunch for the first day, and the overnight accomodation. Head to the terminal near the Cultural Center of the Philippines beside the Manila Yacht Club by seven a.m. to check-in. The ferry leaves the Manila Bay at around 8:00 am and arrives at the island an hour later.
Sulit Stay
As part of the tour package, you will be billeted at Corregidor Inn (Regular rates for two persons start at P2,500 – get yourself booked for another night if you get bitin). The inn is strategically located at the middle of the island, where all the must-see spots are accessible by foot.
Fun Food-Trippin’
On the island, there is only one restaurant, but it offers a great selection of local and foreign dishes. The La Playa Restaurant is located on the grounds of Corregidor Inn. With meals a la carte starting at P200, you can take your pick from the usual Filipino favorites like liempo, pansit, grilled chicken, and the like. Tip: You can also bring your own baon to Corregidor to save big-time.
Tours and Treats
The guided tour takes you to various ruins, markers, and memorials around the island, like the Filipino Hereos Memorial, the Pacific War Memorial, and the Battery Way. Invite the gang to learn more about Corregidor’s history, courtesy of the light and sounds show at Malinta Tunnel (Entrance fee is an additional P150). You and the barkada are free to explore the island on your own as well.
